Greetings all,
I know you will all love to come along to our July activities and warm up with digging, planting, and weeding this month.
Thursday 10th July – Officers’ Quarters Historic Garden Group will be pruning, spreading the weed mat, mulching, and attempting to rabbit proof the historic plantings. There will be a hot cuppa and a snack available.
Sunday 13th July – Coastcare will be planting along the coastal track and putting stakes and guards around our plantings. We have a grant through Tasman Landcare Group for some low growing shrubs and grasses to plant. BYO garden tools and protective gear as we will be amongst the coastal vegetation. If we get enough volunteers, we can also do a search in the reserve for any pine seedlings that may have come up along the dunes. I will bring the clean up bags in case there is more rubbish to pick up as well.
Please check that you are up to date with your NRE registration, so you are covered by insurance, and we have contact details in case of an emergency.
I will bring along some paper copies if you can’t access a computer to register, or if you require more information, you can call/email me.
New members of authorised Community Volunteering Groups such as Wildcare, Landcare, sporting clubs and historical preservation societies, should select Tasmania Parks & Wildlife Service / Environment, Heritage & Land Division to register as a volunteer with NRE Tas. |
Upcoming EHNCC activities:
Tasman Council is holding ” A natural Escape” festival, (Oct) and EHNCC will be involved with a couple of activities. Anyone who would like to help plan our activities, let me know. There will be a networking day on October Saturday 11th, and we have been invited to attend and help host – more info down the track.
Sun Oct 12th: planned Beach walk for shorebirds at EHN looking for nesting sites and cordoning them off. Followed by Fundraiser lunch and “Birdy Pecha Kucha” – a fun and informative bird focussed afternoon of pics and stories. Get your camera out and make a slide show of your most interesting or favourite pics. Each participant will get 5-10 mins to show some photos and relate a birdy experience. Or just come along and enjoy the show. The Lunch will be $10pp, and the birdy stuff is free. If anyone would like to curate a gallery of bird paintings and photos to have on display, I would love to hear from you.
The great Southern Bioblitz is on between Friday Oct 24th and Sunday Oct 26th. We will do ” i naturalist” training sessions and sign up in August and September at EHNCC, so we are ready to participate. This is a great chance to get involved in Citizen Science if you haven’t already done so.
Keep warm everyone and maybe see you at a July activity.
With thanks,
Kerrie Brown
