Thanks to the generous efforts of volunteers, and under the guidance of Naomi Jeffs*, the lost gardens at the Officers Quarters in Eaglehawk Neck are starting to re-emerge.
Two massive islands of weeds have been cut down and a third island reduced by one third.
The next task is to consolidate the gains by spreading newspaper and mulch. ‘Six people with 3 barrows could do it in 3 hours,’ Naomi estimates.
If you have time to help on any of these days, we’d love to hear from you:
20 or 21 December 2014
Sun 11 January 2015
Met at the car park near the Officers Quarters in Eaglehawk Neck around 9am.
(*) Naomi Jeffs is head of horticulture at Port Arthur Historic Sites.
Why not drop in to the Gardens sometime this Summer – I think you’ll notice a difference.
