The eggplant have started in earnest, and there are a few ‘fat’ ones, as well as the lovely thin ones. The capsicum are almost there too. Peas have finished for the moment; but there are plenty of beautiful Continental flat beans.
We’ve been enjoying our onion adventure hugely – I hope you’re enjoying sharing it with us. for years I didn’t realise how much difference there was between onions! Last week we had the most beautiful French Onion Soup, made with the Sweet Domenica – they’re perfect for this classic soup. The Long Red Florence are a really tasty onion too – not quite so sweet; but a lovely flavour.
There’s Baby Leaf Salad, and also the tender Baby Spinach, as well Lebanese Cucumbers and Spring Onions. Don’t forget the Kohl Rabi is a great addition to salads too – just a bit sliced or grated in gives substance and crunch to salads.
Dutch Creams are plentiful – such a versatile spud – and there are some of the antioxidant rich reds and purples too.
Caulies, Beetroot, Baby White Turnips, Kale, Pak Choi, Choi Sum and Baby Carrots round out the offerings.

Also this weekend is the Eaglehawk Neck Summer Market – Saturday at the Eaglehawk Neck Hall from 9.30am -12.30pm. And late afternoon there’ll be an open air concert at the hall grounds – 4pm -8.30pm. For just a gold coin donation, enjoy the summer atmosphere and 2 bands. Great food, BBQ and alcoholic drinks will be on sale – just bring a chair or rug and enjoy . This will be a great family event.
